Coaching/Mentoring

Our Coaching/Mentoring program consists of the classroom-based LMs (Literacy Mentors). First and foremost, the duties of the LMs are to offer the intensive, ongoing, in-class coaching that is so critical to professional development. By means of observation, modeling, and constructive but explicit feedback, we believe that our mentors connect with both teachers and students in ways that past methods of instructional development never could. Research shows that reinforcement and coaching, such as ours, when following professional development, is a critical element in long-term retention and exhibition of knowledge and skills.

Parent Literacy

Our Parent Literacy program is a variation of our in-class coaching/mentoring system. HLMs (Home Literacy Mentors) cover another major portion of a child's educational life so that the child receives the best education possible from all directions. The concept behind our HLMs is that when the student gets off of the bus and puts down their backpack, they aren't done learning.
Parent Literacy is a systemic, one-of-a-kind approach that uses clever, enjoyable activities and implements a group-based dynamic to encourage the entire family to participate in the child's learning process.
With each of these elements in place, Education Alliance continues to improve the way in which our children are taught. By helping teachers reach their full potential as role models and educators, by giving young students another friend and mentor to look up to, and by giving the parents a chance to take part in their child's most critical stage of intellectual growth, we believe that we are improving the future of education. Together, we are striving for excellence.
