Parent Literacy
At Education Alliance we believe parents love their children and want the best for them. However, desire alone is never enough; there are other tools that are required to help our children succeed. Children experience success when they hear a rhyme at school that they are familiar with because they have heard it at home. These children are confident learners as they sit in class, listening intently to their teacher read a book that they have already grown to love while sitting on their parent’s knee. Learning moments such as these are the puzzle pieces vital to building children’s self-confidence and increasing the love of learning. Positive learning experiences set in motion more learning opportunities both at school and at home. Knowledgeable and confident parents are the conduits in which strong bridges between homes and schools are built.
Together We Learn is a parent curriculum that is scientifically based and is crucial in teaching parents how to expose their children to high quality language and literacy environments. Together We Learn equips parents with a kind of “toolbox” for literacy containing vital materials, knowledge, and skills that infuses in parents a desire to want to be an integral part of their children’s learning. Thus, Together We Learn is the link that will make the lasting connection between home and school.
